Meet Our Staff

Dr. Barbara Korry, DVM

It is with mixed emotions that we announce Dr. Barbara Korry’s retirement.

Over her nearly 38 year career, Dr. Korry wore many hats, including horse trainer and behaviorist, ER veterinarian, and most notably, your beloved family veterinarian. During her career, she served on the board of the Rhode Island Veterinary Medical Association in various capacities, mentored high school students, and supported the Girls Scouts. She founded the Cowesett Animal Hospital in 1990 with a goal of providing unparalleled comprehensive and compassionate care for her patients and their families. Dr. Korry valued continuing education and was always quick to introduce cutting edge innovations to her practice. In particular, she feels fortunate to have seen the development of excellent pain management protocols, point of care blood pressure measurement and instantaneous dental radiographs. These advances have allowed her to provide a superior level of care to all of her patients. Dr. Korry also cultivated a culture of compassion, patience, and skill in her staff. She created an environment for employees that allowed their strengths and talents to develop. She made sure to create and embrace learning opportunities for all members. She leaves a legacy of dedicated, warm, giving, and compassionate people that will continue to work hard to provide excellent care for your treasured pets. She has been an inspiration to us all, will be sorely missed, and impossible to replace.

Please join us in showing Dr. Korry our tremendous appreciation by sending your best wishes to to our email (see the contact us page) Your kind words will be included in a legacy book in celebration of her career and contributions.

Dr. Labriola's professional interests include feline medicine, soft tissue surgery, and ultrasound imaging. At home, she enjoys playing violin, and getting creative with painting, knitting, baking, and cake decorating. She shares her home with her family, 2 Scottie dogs, and 4 cats.

Her calm, upbeat personality always puts everyone, two and four legged, at ease. Her special interests include gentle animal handling and dentistry. Outside of work she is an avid platelet donor for the RIBC, enjoys hiking, and spending time with family and friends.

Marie is an avid Disney enthusiast and loves movie trivia; if you quote a line from a favorite movie or TV show, Marie can probably name the episode and character!

Shana, Veterinary Nurse
Shana has been a part of our team since 2012. She was inspired to work in the veterinary field by her love of animals and desire for hands on learning. She feels strongly about low stress handling and enjoys helping our anxious patients feel more comfortable. She and her husband live on a farm and care for a wide variety of adopted and rescued animals. Their menagerie includes a pitbull type dog, cats, chickens, turkeys, goats, and sheep; the animals are there to simply live out the rest of their lives in peace. Shana is also a classically trained singer with a BA in music from Wheaton College. She loves singing as well as painting. She is also a certified dog trainer and has a health and wellness business. She truly enjoys helping people and animals feel their best, bringing a warm smile and kind heart to all.

Korie, Veterinary Nurse
Korie became a part of our team in 2021. She first came to us as an intern from Ashworth College, graduating with a certicate in Veterinary Assistant. The staff immediately recognized that Korie would make a lovely addition to our team. She is personable and friendly no matter what the day brings. She is a quick learner and has grown immeasurably in her skills over the past 2 years, becoming a trusted part of our surgery team and picking up our new computer system so fast that she has become our go-to for technical questions. On her time off she enjoys painting, beach time and family dinners.

Destinee, Veterinary Nurse

Destinee has just graduated from the University of Rhode Island, majoring in Animal Science and is bound for veterinary school next year!  Destinee has always had an innate desire to work with animals; she used to give her great-grandmother’s dog “check-ups” as a toddler.  Her favorite animals to work with are dogs and horses as she is an avid equestrian. Destinee’s favorite part of her job  with us is establishing relationships with the “paw-rents”. She feels it is very rewarding when she sends a happy and healthy patient home to a grateful family. After graduating early from URI, Destinee hopes to earn her DVM at Tuft’s University and have her own practice. Outside of working, Destinee is a published author, an Honor’s student, and an involved advocate for survivors of domestic violence. She also spends most nights cuddling with her Sharpei-mini, Angel. A fun fact about Destinee is that she has a twin brother! He studies Pharmacy at the University of Rhode Island and they are best friends.

Sarah, Veterinary Nurse

Sarah is our newest member of the team. She amazes us with her boundless energy, positivity, and passion for gentle low stress animal handling. She feels strongly about being an advocate and voice for all pets. She loves working with cats most of all as they hold a special place in her heart. In her free time, Sarah enjoys taking classes at Orange Theory, running, and spending time at home with her 4 cats and 1 lucky dog. One day, she hopes to own a feline only practice somewhere in the south.
