About Us

Cowesett Animal Hospital was founded in 1990 by Dr. Barbara Korry with the goal of providing personal, thorough, compassionate care and treating each pet as a unique individual.  The staff at Cowesett Animal Hospital is a group of caring, competent, people who fully embrace our mission statement. They care for your pet as if it was their own and understand what it is like when a family pet is ill. They are fully trained to provide information and resources to maintain your pet's health.

Our doctors are proud to support the Rhode Island Companion Animal Foundation, a unique organization founded by the veterinarians in Rhode Island and dedicated to providing financial support for veterinary care for animals whose owners have financial need. The doctors and their generous and talented staff support the Pets and Vets program, which provides field trips for middle school students from around the state. The Cowesett Animal Hospital staff also mentors Warwick area High School seniors completing their Senior Projects.

In October 2018, Dr. Beth Labriola joined the Cowesett Animal Hospital team. Dr. Labriola graduated from the University at Buffalo in 2002 and received her DVM degree from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. Dr. Labriola's professional interests include soft tissue surgery, dentistry, and ultrasound imaging.  She shares her home with her family, their Scottie dogs, Angus and Percy, and kitties - Annabelle, Ophelia, Nero, and Cleopatra.

Update 11/2023:

It is with mixed emotions that we announce Dr. Barbara Korry’s retirement.

Over her nearly 38 year career, Dr. Korry wore many hats, including horse trainer and behaviorist, ER veterinarian, and most notably, your beloved family veterinarian. During her career, she served on the board of the Rhode Island Veterinary Medical Association in various capacities, mentored high school students, and supported the Girls Scouts. She founded the Cowesett Animal Hospital in 1990 with a goal of providing unparalleled comprehensive and compassionate care for her patients and their families. Dr. Korry valued continuing education and was always quick to introduce cutting edge innovations to her practice. In particular, she feels fortunate to have seen the development of excellent pain management protocols, point of care blood pressure measurement and instantaneous dental radiographs. These advances have allowed her to provide a superior level of care to all of her patients. Dr. Korry also cultivated a culture of compassion, patience, and skill in her staff. She created an environment for employees that allowed their strengths and talents to develop. She made sure to create and embrace learning opportunities for all members. She leaves a legacy of dedicated, warm, giving, and compassionate people that will continue to work hard to provide excellent care for your treasured pets. She has been an inspiration to us all, will be sorely missed, and impossible to replace.

Please join us in showing Dr. Korry our tremendous appreciation by sending your best wishes to to our email (see the contact us page) Your kind words will be included in a legacy book in celebration of her career and contributions.
